Wong Soon Nam, VP, Consumer Singapore said, “Smart homes are the homes of the future as Singapore becomes a Smart Nation. Singtel SmartHome is part of our vision of helping busy Singaporeans live better by using technology to empower them to live more comfortably and safely. With our strengths in network and connectivity, and the wide array of smart devices that can be seamlessly connected, the possibilities that Singtel SmartHome can offer to customers are limitless.”
With more than 88%* of households in Singapore wired with broadband and a smartphone penetration rate of 83%**, setting up a smart home that communicates wirelessly and living a connected future can be easily enabled. While there are point solutions for the smart home, Singtel, in partnership with Hanman International, lets customers control a wide range of popular smart devices from a single app. Hanman is the sole distributor for Samsung Ezon digital door locks and home automation systems in Singapore.
The home automation and security service features a smart hub that can connect and communicate with more than 200 compatible smart devices such as motion sensors, contact sensors and smart cameras via Z-Wave Plus technology. This IMDA-certified smart home “brain” integrates the home automation process and centralises control on a secure app.

Once Singtel SmartHome is installed, customers can securely monitor and control their smart devices in real-time with the true-i mobile app, customising how they work by setting rules to automate tasks and receiving instant alerts about what is happening at home no matter where they are.
For example, homeowners can set air-conditioning and appliances to turn off automatically as soon as they leave home. They can also be alerted when family members return home, or if there is unexpected activity around sensitive areas, such as a safe or the back door, after which they can remotely activate a camera to live-stream selected parts of the home for peace of mind. Another use case is allowing deliveries into a restricted area while securing the rest of the home.
Singtel has been exploring use cases in conjunction with Hanman, said Richard Bok, Director, Consumer Innovation, Singtel. In a demonstration at a suite in the Carlton Hotel, Bok showed how entering a room would activate devices such as a fan, the TV and the kettle, all of which were connected to smart power plugs so that they could be switched on and off remotely. The air-conditioning unit in the hotel was also activated at the same time with the help of a remote infrared controller mounted nearby. Room entry was controlled by a dummy door fitted with a Samsung digital door lock that had a Z-Wave Plus card installed in it for smart communications.
