DanceTex, the first technology-themed dance competition, makes its debut at SITEX, the annual lifestyle technology show.
DanceTex was launched to encourage dance talents to leverage wearable technology and innovative
gadgets during their training and demonstrate the use of technology during their performance at SITEX.
"Technology, both hardware and software, are increasingly used by dance instructors and dancers in choreographing and rehearsing of dance routines," said Andreas Chua, a Dancetex judge, "Wearable
technologies such as Bluetooth headphones allow for the freedom of movements. Wireless speakers with remote controls minimise distractions and expands practice areas beyond classrooms. Together with SITEX organisers, I hope we can inspire more community alike to use technology to their advantage."
For an immersive experience, each competing crew received a technology gadget to be included in their dance and a GoPro camera for the filming of their audition videos. Some supporting technology partners include Samsung, Misfits, Fossil, Tom Tom, Ollo Clip, 360 Fly and Axtion 5.
Finalists will be judged by three dance professionals: Chua, Kayte Willis and Ian Poh. The judging criteria are quality of dance technique, crew identity and the ability to creatively fuse the provided gadget into the choreography and dance moves such as popping, locking, hip hop, and waacking.
