Keysight Technologies has announced an automotive cybersecurity programme in Southeast Asia. The news was announced at Keysight Technologies’ largest annual event in Singapore – Keysight World Singapore, on August 2, 2019.
Vehicles have on-board systems — infotainment, telematics, engine control units (ECUs) — that are potential entry points for malicious attacks. They also use increasingly complex software to provide advanced functionality, creating opportunities for malware to take over and compromise for example a connected vehicle's braking or steering system, Keysight said.
Announced in the US in July, the Automotive Cybersecurity Program enables automotive security professionals at car manufacturers (original equipment manufacturers, OEMs) and their Tier 1 suppliers to ensure the safety of their vehicles with proactive protection against cyberattacks throughout the research and development (R&D) and production process, as well as post-sales.
Keysight's Automotive Cybersecurity Program enables car manufacturers and their suppliers to:
- Implement and enforce company-wide security standards
- Establish a companywide test procedure supporting supplier certification and auditing
- Achieve repeatability through rigorous regression testing and documented workflows and results
- Identify potential vulnerabilities from the physical level to the application layer, including wireless and wireline connections
- Rapidly validate and implement software fixes
- Stay ahead of hackers by proactively assessing security risks before an attack
Keysight's programme consists of integrated hardware, software, and services needed by automotive OEMs and Tier 1s to ensure the safety of their vehicles, address the scale and complexity of rapidly changing technology, facilitate time to market, and supplement internal cybersecurity activities.
Keysight recognises that automotive cybersecurity needs to be part of the development life cycle, extending into post-sales. To address this need, Keysight offers:
- Hardware that connects to the device under test (DUT) via all relevant interfaces, e.g. Wi-Fi, cellular, Bluetooth, USB, CAN, and Automotive Ethernet. CAN stands for controller area network and is a standard that allows ECUs to talk to each other.
- Software that simulates attacks, reports on vulnerabilities (and severity), and offers recommended fixes
- DUT-specific regression testing that simplifies and accelerates verification of fixes
- Enterprise-level management of testing, including seamless integration with widely-used OEM and Tier 1 enterprise platforms
To ensure proactive prevention, Keysight is also offering security intelligence - a subscription service to a frequently-updated threat database. This subscription includes information on the latest security attacks, evasion tactics, and examples of live malware. It also offers application protocol releases along with ongoing software updates and enhancements.
Car manufacturers in Southeast Asia, the main target audience for the programme, include Perodua and Proton in Malaysia and Thai Rung Union Car in Thailand. Vietnam has VinFast, and is also home to global automotive manufacturers.
Ee Huei Sin, VP and GM, General Electronics Measurement Solutions (GEMS), Keysight, said that the automotive and energy sector will be riding on an electric car revolution in Southeast Asia in the future. She noted that there electric vehicle population is expected to reach 820,000 cars in Thailand by 2023, while Malaysia is expected to have 100,000 electric cars and 2,0000 electric buses by 2030. Singapore has also awarded a tended for 60 electric buses by 2020.
She also shared that Southeast Asia is a hotbed for other emerging technologies that Keysight is already supporting. These include 5G, IoT, and the data centre. Keysight plays where such technologies must be tested before commercialisation, delivering solutions and insights in electronic design, test, manufacturing, and optimisation.
"In today's global economy, success demands an integrated and agile approach to innovation. Delivering the next big thing requires the perfect blend of inspiration, technology, solutions, and partners from around the world," stated Donna Majcen, VP of global marketing at Keysight.
"That's the driving idea behind Keysight World. It brings together Keysight thought leaders, technological advances, breakthrough design/test/optimisation strategies, and leading-edge solutions on a global scale to inspire, enable, and accelerate the realisation of innovation."
Other solutions new to Southeast Asia at Keysight World included VisionX, PathWave Analytics, 5G- related products such as the M9384B VXG Microwave Signal Generator, Nemo Handy, and DDR testing solution.
- Vision X from Ixia, a Keysight Business, extracts data from the network and then distributes the relevant data to the relevant security and monitoring tools – thus affording businesses visibility and security coverage to business assets.
- The M9384B delivers an optimised 5G NR test system setup by leveraging dual-channel 44 GHz vector signal generation with up to 2 GHz RF modulation bandwidth. It also offers low over-the-air (OTA) test system path loss and accelerated product development through integration with Keysight's PathWave Signal Generation Software.
- Nemo Handy is an Android-based handheld drive test tool that allows users to measure wireless diagnostics information of air interface and mobile application quality-of-service (QoS) and quality-of-experience (QoE). It has automated location mapping, and is ideal for performing measurements such as 5G NR networks both outdoors and indoors, while being simultaneously used as a regular mobile phone.
- Keysight is first in market to offer new receiver, transmitter, and protocol test solutions in a solution approach to manage test requirements for the DDR5 design specification.
