No more nasty fingerprints and smudges

Two new technologies were discussed on the Internet recently. Both were discussed in relation to food, but I see another use for them - to protect all the devices I want to carry around with me.



First off, LiquiGlide. This company develops permanently slippery surfaces that practically force viscous liquids to slide right off them. A video on the website shows how every last drop of ketchup will flow out of the bottle.

Then there is Tomorrow Machine, which teamed up with Innventia to come up with a super-hydrophobic coated plate that rejects dirt, getting rid of it the same way water rolls off a lotus leaf. 

"This means that it never needs washing. A product that not only saves resources during manufacture, but also when it is used because it does not need water and chemicals to be kept clean," states Tomorrow Machine's website.

What if such a hydrophobic coating is part of a phone or tablet case? Or if LiquiGlide technology coats keyboards and screens? Tip dirt and liquids right into the bin, and you're good to go. 




It typically takes months to years to get from concept products to the commercial versions, however Let's hope a beta version comes soon.
