Wearables move beyond the wrist

This year, you could be wearing clothes that are so intelligent, they can tell you how healthy you are the moment you put them on. It'll also tell you how you're performing in a sports setting, and where you are, in case you're lost.

France-based Cityzen Sciences, set up in 2008 by Jean-Luc Errant, specialises in smart fabrics, and has textiles with built-in sensors that can monitor a person's temperature and heart rate, as well as speed, acceleration, and GPS location - a clear application for sports, or safety for that matter.

A concept 'monitoring shirt' was showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show in the US this week. According to CityZen Sciences, it has been designed to be waterproof, easily washable and comfortable. Battery life was not mentioned, however.
