Huawei, a global information and communications technology (ICT) solution provider which has helped construct more than two hundred 100G commercial WDM* networks, has launched a product designed to increase efficiency and reduce costs for telecoms operators in relation to managing increasing volumes of data traffic from both fixed and mobile networks across metropolitan networks.
The OptiX OSN 9800 U16 is based upon a new WDM/OTN* Packet Optical Transport System (P-OTS) architecture. Huawei's OptiX OSN 9800 U16 and OptiX OSN 1800 series constitute a complete metropolitan WDM solution.
As fixed broadband and
mobile Internet develop rapidly, operators' metropolitan networks need
to be able to withstand increasingly more bandwidth. Traditional
transport networks cannot provide the massive amounts of bandwidth
required while uniformly and efficiently carry various metropolitan
network services. "WDM/OTN to the edge" is future-oriented, and the
concept enables initial investments to bring massive amounts of
bandwidth and permanent capabilities to carry various services
efficiently, including traffic from fixed and mobile subscribers, and
from the services like IPTV, LTE, and LTE-A.
"Facing an ocean of data in metropolitan networks, transport pipes must use composite materials that incorporate multiple technologies such as ultra-high-speed WDM, universal cross-connection and SDN*," said Jack Wang, President of Huawei's Transmission Network Product Line, adding: "Only channels with large enough capacity and intelligent management capability can address these growing future requirements. Huawei's OptiX OSN 9800 U16 and OptiX OSN 1800 series constitute a complete metropolitan WDM solution."
The OptiX OSN 9800 U16 enables operators to establish an intelligent large-capacity metropolitan WDM/OTN network. An OptiX OSN 9800 U16 provides 14 slots, each supporting a maximum capacity of 400G. Its line side supports a rate of 100G, 400G, 1T, or 2T and a pair of optical fibers on the line side provides a capacity of over 8T. Full cross-connection capacities of 5.6T through a 19U (about 85 cm) sub-rack are also provided.
The 'core' for the OptiX OSN 9800 U16 supports 5.6T universal cross-connection capacity. This core cross-connects various types of service granularities, such as OTN, virtual circuits (VC), and packet in real time, and is capable of accessing multiple types of services, such as TDM*, Ethernet, video, and storage. Moreover, the OptiX OSN 9800 U16 supports Huawei's SDN solution, which greatly simplifies operations and maintenance (O&M).
*OTN stands for optical transport network, a network which makes use of WDM*SDN stands for software defined networking, a network management method
*TDM stands for time division multiplexing, a data connectivity standard
*WDM stands for wavelength division multiplexing, a fibre-optic connectivity standard
