“These platforms leverage the core platforms with new features and capabilities unique to our OEM customers. The PowerEdge R420xr is based on the same electrical components as our mainstream PowerEdge R420 server but is repackaged in a shallower chassis with additional ruggedisation features and design elements to meet the military, oil & gas, healthcare, and telecommunications market requirements for high performance and extremely reliable servers.
"A software package developed and certified on the R420xr will run on the standard R420 with no or very little modification and often no requalification,” said Franklin Flint, Executive Director, Telco Strategy, Dell OEM Solutions Group and Erwin Meyer, General Manager, DEM OEM Telco Vertical, in a joint statement via email.
“Similarly, the new PowerVault storage arrays leverage the core chassis, drives, and architectures of Dell’s entry level MD arrays while providing more capacity, performance, and expansion options.”
