NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), the global data and IP services arm of telco NTT, will expand its global IP network footprint with a new point-of-presence (PoP) in Bangkok, Thailand, beginning July 1.
NTT Com will offer IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack access via its Tier-1 IP network not only to domestic providers of Internet services (ISPs) and content (ICPs), but also multinational companies providing Internet-related services in Thailand and the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) countries, including Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.
NTT Com will leverage its presence in Thailand to strengthen the country’s Internet environment, where a population of over 67 million is driving some 70% compound annual growth in international IP traffic. The company noted that Thailand is one of the fastest-growing markets for Internet-related business in Asia. With Thailand functioning as the centre of the GMS, the new PoP also will enhance the Internet environment throughout the GMS, which has a population of approximately 300 million.
NTT Com’s global Tier-1 IP network, a pioneer of commercial IPv6 technology, is the world’s second-largest network among global Tier-1 IP network providers. Direct connection to this backbone ensures availability to highly reliable global infrastructure that Internet service providers in Thailand and the GMS will use to deliver high-performance, low-latency and cost-effective global access to their customers.
