India plans to build 100 smart cities

India's Urban Development Minister Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu said 23 July that the government developing smart cities, and plans to work on 100 such cities. 

The news was in reply to a question raised by Shri P. Kumar in the Lok Sabha during Question Hour. Shri Naidu further said that all stakeholders will be consulted in the matter and the scheme had been discussed at a recent meeting of the Urban Development Ministers of States and Union Territories, and will be presented to Parliament when it is finalised.
