Microsoft to focus on productivity promise going forward

Microsoft is crystallising its unique strategy under CEO Satya Nadella. In a message sent to all employees, Nadella says Microsoft is about productivity.

"At our core, Microsoft is the productivity and platform company for the mobile-first and cloud-first world. We will reinvent productivity to empower every person and every organisation on the planet to do more and achieve more," he said in his message on July 10 US time.

Framing the company as one which is about productivity for people, teams and organisations, with interconnected platforms for individuals, IT and developers, will enable Microsoft to solve more complex real-world challenges, he said.

Microsoft already has a rich heritage in creating productivity experiences and platforms from which to build upon, Nadella noted. "We will reinvent productivity for people who are swimming in a growing sea of devices, apps, data and social networks. We will build the solutions that address the productivity needs of groups and entire organisations as well as individuals by putting them at the centre of their computing experiences," he promised. "Every experience Microsoft builds will understand the rich context of an individual at work and in life to help them organise and accomplish things with ease."

Microsoft's offerings from now on will be about creating experiences for customers with a specific focus on dual use - the concept that a person should have a productive digital life both at work and outside of it, said Nadella. "Our cloud OS infrastructure, device OS and first-party hardware will all build around this core focus and enable broad ecosystems. Microsoft will light up digital work and life experiences in the most personal, intelligent, open and empowering ways," he said.
