Izkyu Cable Network installs ARRIS converged edge router for high speed broadband

ARRIS Group has announced that Izukyu Cable is using the ARRIS E6000 Converged Edge Router (CER) to enhance its high-speed broadband services. The deployment of the CER will help Izukyu Cable deliver immediate high-performance results while also positioning them well for a future where DOCSIS 3.1* is widely supported.

Major areas served by the Izukyu Cable Network include Shizuoka Prefecture's Atami city, Ito city, Shimoda city, Higashi Izu Machi, Kawazu Machi and Yugawara Machi of Kanagawa Prefecture.

Due to the unique topography of Izu Peninsula, Izukyu Cable Network has been focussed on resolving poor broadcast reception. Instead of moving to fibre to the home (FTTH), which is costly and is not suited for the topography, Izukyu Cable will be able to enhance performance of its services using its existing hybrid fibre coaxial (HFC) infrastructure.

"The ARRIS E6000 CER provides us with a high-availability, high-performance solution with impressive scalability," said Shogo Ozaki, Cable Life Enhancement Business Unit and Product Development Leader at Izukyu Cable. "The decision to employ ARRIS E6000 for the first time inJapan is not just about the replacement of a CMTS. It would be challenging for us to move forward with FTTH due to cost and topography; therefore, to be able to utilise HFC is important. The future functionality of DOCSIS 3.1 is also attractive. With the new solution, we will push forward with high speed internet and telecommunication services for our customers, which are critical to our business and will encourage everyone in our firm."

"We are pleased to be working closely with our valued customer Izukyu Cable to support their transition to the next-generation with the E6000 CER, a first deployment of its kind in Japan," said Rich Matsuo, Vice President, ARRIS, Japan. "As the industry's leading Converged Cable Access Platform (CCAP) solution, the ARRIS E6000 CER is capable of maximising the return on investment because of its ability to support the deployment of future services due to its proven design, cost-effectiveness, and scalability.

The ARRIS E6000 CER enables converged services on broadband networks, and supports a fully redundant design. It is based on the CCAP specification that enables optimised IP content delivery. The ARRIS E6000 CER platform already provides service to millions of subscribers worldwide.
