According to Channel NewsAsia, a customer discovered that other customers' information could be accessed, including ID numbers and phone numbers.
M1's website went down on the 12th when it started accessing pre-orders for the new iPhones. The company first acknowledged the problem on Facebook on 12 September with the statement "Our iPhone 6 pre-order page is currently experiencing high traffic. Please stay tuned to our Facebook page for further updates. Thank you for your patience and understanding," and then apologised on the 13th with "Thank you for your patience and understanding. We are continuing to experience high traffic and are working to improve the situation."
As of the 15th, M1 has run out of iPhone 6 Plus sets for pre-order but said that stocks of the iPhone 6 are still available. Rival SingTel closed what it called pre-registrations for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus at noon on 15 September due to overwhelming demand, after which successful registrants will be contacted for appointments. StarHub closed its pre-registrations and opened its iPhone 6 booking site on the 15th for eligible customers who had previously indicated an interest.
"There is strong demand for the phones and we are expecting high web traffic volume when the booking site opens. Please be assured that we will do all we can to give our customers a smooth experience. Thank you for your patience and kind understanding," read a statement on the StarHub Facebook page.
