GIS growing in APAC through education

Countries in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region are increasingly using geographical information systems* (GIS) to enhance the growth of the education sector, observes TechNavio, a tech-focused research firm

The initiatives are being undertaken to help governments understand literacy rates and better plan their education system, the company explained in GIS Market in the APAC Region 2014-2018Governments in the APAC region are also investing in the technology to help eradicate poverty and increase agricultural production and manufacturing output.

TechNavio says the market will see a 10.76% CAGR from 2013 to 2018. 
“China, India, Japan and South Korea are all implementing GIS solutions to foster the growth of education sector. The Department of Education in Cordillera Administrative Region in the Philippines is also conducting a massive regional literacy mapping project to survey all indigenous and non-indigenous learners. These kinds of initiatives will foster good growth of the GIS market in these countries," says Faisal Ghaus, Vice President of TechNavio.

*TechNavio has defined GIS as integrated hardware, software, data and services for processing business and geographically referenced data.
