Dubai Open Data Committee to walk fine line between data availability and security

HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, has issued a resolution to form a Dubai Open Data Committee to streamline Dubai’s services across different levels, WAM, the Emirates news agency has reported. 

The committee will aim to strike the balance between making data available and maintaining data security in line with the vision of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to transform Dubai into a smart city. Open access data will be made accessible, aligned with global practice.

The Dubai Open Data Committee will implement changes to ease of information flow while securing information and help to define the scope of open data, classifications and issue priorities regarding circulation and sharing mechanisms.

The open data committee is headed by Abdulla Al Madani, 
CEO, Corporate Technical Support Services Sector, Roads and Transportation Authority and includes Wesam Lootah, Assistant Director-General from the Dubai Smart Government Department, Mohammed Shael, CEO, Business Registration and Licensing, Department of Economic Development, Engineer Mohammed Al Zaffin, IT Director, Dubai Municipality, Ahmad Al Falasi, CEO, Support Services Sector, Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, Khalid Al Razouki from the Dubai Police, in addition to representatives from the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and Dubai Centre for E-Security.
