"2014 was another great year for Fibre Channel innovation and enterprises and service providers can look forward to even more advancements in the coming years as next-generation solutions are developed based on the Gen 6 standard in order to leverage its advanced feature set."
In 2014, FCIA announced several new initiatives designed to extend Fibre Channel's position as the industry's most reliable and robust storage networking solution including:
- Gen 6 Fibre Channel, the industry's fastest industry standard networking protocol that enables storage area networks of up to 128GFC
- A new workgroup within the INCITS T11 Committee that will align Fibre Channel fabric connectivity using the upcoming NVM Express Over Fabrics standards specification
- Finalisation of the FC-BB-6 standard, representing the ongoing evolution of the Fibre Channel technology to leverage ubiquitous data centre resources such as Ethernet
- A "Trusted Foundation" initiative with an online Knowledge Vault to raise awareness to current and potential users of storage networking about why Fibre Channel has become so predominant, amid a sea of other storage networking protocols
