Adira Dinamika Multi Finance (Adira Finance), Indonesia’s top automotive financing company, has virtualised its existing IT infrastructure with VMware vSphere Enterprise Plus and VMware vCenter Operations Suite 5.6.

“Since its inception in 1990, our company has been growing rapidly. This led to the corresponding growth and complexities of our ecosystem and IT. Currently we have more than 600 branch offices to serve more than 15 thousands customers with over 11 thousands of partners and dealers, with the number of our staff also growing to more than 26 thousand,” said Cornel Hugroseno, Director of Information Technology, Adira Finance.

“We would not have achieved that much of success without the support from a robust and reliable IT infrastructure, proven as a major asset that has helped us overcome any challenges and business needs with virtualisation as solution since its first phase of implementation in 2012.”

As it grew, Adira Finance faced challenges of needing to provide faster and better service to its customers to stay competitive in Indonesia. Before deploying VMware’s solutions, its IT infrastructure was not able to deliver customer service at an optimal pace. To deploy or provision new infrastructure to support new business needs - such as servers and applications - took months, slowing down service delivery time.

Additional expenditures were also incurred with the opening of each branch office with the purchase of new servers to support the services. Adira Finance also needed to ensure the management and protection of critical data and compliance to data privacy regulation. These motivated Adira Finance to build a new IT infrastructure that is fast and reliable, to meet the company’s objectives of increasing efficiency in business processes, ensuring security, enhancing customer service and business productivity.

Adira Finance recognised that virtualisation would allow better optimisation of its investments, lower operational costs, and better management with visibility of its virtual infrastructure. The solution also enabled high availability to enhance service delivery to its customers.

“The virtualisation of Adira Finance was completed in three stages. The first stage included an evaluation of its existing infrastructure performance to identify outdated servers that required upgrades, and analysis of future infrastructure needs like the provisioning of new servers and applications,” said Hugroseno. “This is followed by the implementation of VMware vSphere Enterprise Plus and VMware vCenter Operations Suite 5.6, with the gradual replacement of outdated Windows and Linux server life cycle with virtualised servers.”

VMware vSphere Enterprise Plus with VMware vRealize Operations Manager not only allowed for better resource management, but also enhanced performance and visibility across the virtual infrastructure. This meant that Adira Finance’s IT was able to visualise system performance in detail, enabling more efficient systems operation management. VMware’s vSphere Enterprise Plus also allowed virtual machines to be run from one host to another, allowing continuous service availability with less disruption and with significantly reduced recovery times.

The VMware virtualisation solution implemented on Windows and Linux based servers also enabled Adira Finance to run business critical applications, such as MS Active Directory MS SQL, MS Exchange, Symantec, IBM Websphere, Oracle Application Server, and Microsoft Internet Information Server. With virtualisation, Adira Finance reduced the number of physical servers from 220 to 24, with all Windows and Linux based servers fully virtualised.

Adira Finance also managed to lower investment costs by 20% with the reduction in physical servers, alongside a 64% decrease in electricity costs.
Most importantly, Adira Finance’s IT department can attend to requests more quickly. Deployment time is significantly shortened from three to four months to up to a week. Adira Finance also benefitted from the ease of maintenance and reduction in service downtime with the built-in feature of vSphere, resulting in faster service delivery to customers.

“From cost savings to driving business growth and faster service delivery to customers, Adira Finance is a great example of a customer that understands the value of virtualisation to its business in today’s liquid world. Agility and efficiency enabled the company fulfil its vision and commitment towards customers and employees, thereby enabling the organisation to further establish its market leadership in a highly competitive industry,” said Adi Rusli, Senior Director and Country Manager, VMware Indonesia.

As the market landscape continues to be more demanding and fluid, Adira Finance is preparing to further leverage its virtualised infrastructure to improve the manageability of its IT resources and change the way that the IT team provides resources to the business. The company looks to further its technology deployment through disaster recovery and network virtualisation solutions.
