China Unicom and Open Network Operating System (ONOS) have agreed to cooperate on the ONOS project at the 2015 China SDN/NFV Conference held in Beijing on April 22, with a view to promoting software-defined network (SDN) industry development and promoting China Unicom's business transformation and service applications.
Tang stated: "SDN represents a huge opportunity for China Unicom to achieve network transformation and service innovation. China Unicom and ONOS share a vision of promoting the SDN industry chain readiness and a prosperous application ecosystem, especially the development of open source network controllers. China Unicom will closely cooperate with ONOS to push SDN technologies forward."
Parulkar said: "China Unicom, as an influential global full-service telecom operator, is committed to researching next-generation network technologies and providing innovative services. ONOS will actively cooperate with China Unicom and play a key role in researching and applying SDN/NFV-based next-generation network technologies."
ONOS, established in 2014, is an open source SDN controller platform, and hosts an open source community. The organisation has established partnerships with operators such as NTT, and SK Telecom, telecom vendors including Huawei, Ciena, Ericsson, and Cisco as well as network operators.
