SAP has announced enhancements to the SAP HANA Cloud Platform aimed at building and deploying business applications to meet the demands of today’s hyper-connected digital economy. The innovations capitalise on the in-memory capabilities of SAP HANA, as well as planned added capabilities such as new library of easy-to-consume Internet of Things (IoT) services for creating powerful yet lightweight apps.
The SAP HANA App Center site continues to expand its offering of apps providing a one-stop shop for customers to access apps powered by SAP HANA Cloud Platform. Finally, SAP unveiled the winners of the SAP HANA Innovation Award to recognise how customers are using SAP HANA to transform their businesses and society. The announcements were made at SAPPHIRE NOW in the US.
"New innovations delivered by SAP HANA Cloud Platform help companies re-imagine how they run their business,” said Steve Lucas, President, Platform Solutions, SAP. “SAP is setting the industry-standard for developing, consuming and deploying apps on our platform-as-a-service (PaaS). SAP HANA is truly the great simplifier of our time for overcoming IT complexity challenges that every business faces today.”
“This is especially true in the Asia Pacific region where the nature and value of data are changing as hyper-connectivity brings new opportunities for businesses and consumers. We are seeing more and more companies in this region adopting SAP solutions in an effort to run their business simpler and faster,” added Paul Marriot, Senior Vice President, Database and Analytics, SAP Asia Pacific Japan.
SAP HANA Cloud Platform is the in-memory platform as a service (PaaS) offering that businesses can trust to power next-generation mobile-ready business applications. Applications extended to, integrated with or built on SAP HANA Cloud Platform can take advantage of the advanced in-memory capabilities of SAP HANA and many additional capabilities to help address the needs of today’s digital economy. The latest release of SAP HANA Cloud Platform includes:
SAP HANA Cloud Platform for the IoT, which will include device and data management for Internet of Things (IoT) application scenarios that simplify the deployment of lightweight IoT cloud applications.
Rapid extension services to deploy software-as-a-service (SaaS) and mobile applications that are tightly coupled with the SuccessFactors HCM Suite, the SAP Cloud for Customer solution, the SAP Jam social software platform, SAP Business Suite 4 SAP HANA (SAP S/4HANA), as well as SAP Business Suite to provide an integrated user experience.
The new services for the SAP Fiori user experience (UX) enable customers to quickly experience how to get more out of their existing SAP investments by extending SAP Fiori apps and developing new SAP Fiori-like apps across all lines of business.
The recently-announced SAP HANA Cloud Platform mobile services PaaS offering. There will be further enhanced support for SAP Fiori apps, with simplified mobile consumption through a consumer-quality UX and an enhanced push notification service to draw users into the app.
The SAP HANA App Center continues to expand, with more than 800 new applications added recently. The following SAP partners are making strong contributions to the SAP HANA App Center:
EnterpriseJungle offers an extension to SAP HANA Cloud Platform and solutions from SuccessFactors, an SAP company, with optional integration with SAP Jam. The application uncovers content from inside and outside a company pertaining to expert knowledge, skills, people and relevant communities and groups.
IBM has developed hundreds of applications on SAP HANA Cloud Platform, including SAP Mobile User Management from IBM, which helps to manage mobile app users, roles and permissions for the back-end of the SAP ERP application. IBM has also been working with SAP to develop a set of mobile solutions that leverage SAP Fiori and SAP Mobile Platform as well as iOS extensions to simplify the user experience.
Innovapptive has developed over 70 applications that utilise SAP HANA Cloud Platform mobile services to help manage critical business issues such as work-related approvals, asset life cycle and inventory transactions.
Jobpts by Semos is an application using SAP HANA Cloud Platform and SuccessFactors solutions that allows companies, including SAP as a corporate end user of Jobpts, to inspire employee achievement with performance recognition and real rewards.
Sitrion offers Sitrion ONE, which uses SAP HANA Cloud Platform to empower employees with mobile access to processes and data from any SAP system, on premise or in the cloud, through out-of-the-box mobile use cases that can be deployed in days instead of the months as it typical.
SAP also unveiled the winners of the second SAP HANA Innovation Award. This year SAP has extended the reach of award submissions from 15 countries in 2014 to 31 in 2015 and included submissions from applicable governmental agencies and partners on behalf of successful SAP HANA customer deployments.
In addition, SAP increased the award categories from three to six to recognise and celebrate customers that have deployed both packaged and custom applications on SAP HANA to enable real-time analytics, process simplification and technology innovations. The six winners included two from India: Asian Paints, a painting and waterproofing solution company from India, and India-headquartered Hinduja Tech, which provides engineering, manufacturing and enterprise (EME) services and solutions for specific industries.
A growing number of SAP partners are achieving outstanding performance results on the SAP Business Warehouse Enhanced Mixed Load (SAP BW-EML) standard application benchmark. These new benchmark results* have been achieved with SAP-certified systems for SAP HANA running scale-up and scale-out architectures and with data sets from 1 billion to 10 billion records.
SAP has also certified a number of the new Intel Xeon processor E7 v3 family-based systems to run SAP HANA from multiple partners, including Cisco, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, Hitachi, Huawei and Lenovo. These systems include 20% more cores and up to 12TB of memory, with worldwide availability from HP in 12TB configurations. In addition, SAP and IBM are planning general availability of the SAP HANA platform on IBM POWER8 systems running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for production use in 2015.
IBM has already introduced a set of Power Systems Solution Editions for SAP HANA. The addition of Intel Xeon processor E7 v3 family-based systems and IBM Power8 will provide ideal platforms to use SAP HANA with big data and Internet of Things scenarios.
*Results of the SAP BW-EML Benchmark
SAP HANA and the recently announced Dell PowerEdge R930 achieved record performance for ad-hoc navigation steps per hour in both 1 billion and 2 billion record data sets
Lenovo has achieved record performance results and demonstrated outstanding scalability on the 10 billon record benchmark over the 1 billion record benchmark on a seven-node scale-out system using its System x3850 X6 servers
A 14-node system from Amazon Web Services (AWS) sets the record for SAP HANA scale-out in the cloud, validating it as an ideal solution for customers to cost-effectively consume SAP HANA
A first-ever virtualised SAP BW-EML benchmark on 3 billion records with VCE and VMware demonstrates that SAP HANA can achieve robust application performance in virtualised environments, as well as provide customers with additional options to help lower data centre TCO.
