Digital cameras find less favour in Japan

Technavio expects the digital camera market in Japan to shrink. The company says it is expected to decline at a CAGR of nearly 13% from 2015 to 2019. The problem is an oversaturated digital camera market, with more than 200 types of cameras to choose from, Technavio said.

The industry analysis names a rise in consumer awareness, increase in disposable income, and increased interest in high-quality cameras that are driving demand for high-end digital cameras. There has been a sharp decline in demand for built-in lens cameras - usually on the mid- to low-end - leaving premium digital cameras to account for a higher percent of revenue in the digital camera market.

“Vendors are introducing personalised digital cameras to meet end-user requirements, such as waterproof and durable digital cameras in different colours. They are targeting female customers with their mirrorless cameras,” says Faisal Ghaus, Vice President of Technavio.

Key vendors mentioned in the report include Canon, Nikon, Panasonic and Sony.
