3M, MicroVision, Optoma Technology, Syndiant and Texas Instruments are key vendors highlighted in a new Technavio report on the global pico projectors market, which is expected to grow at a CAGR of nearly 33% from 2015 to 2019. Pico projectors are handheld devices that allow smart mobile devices to project images on projector screen or wall.
“Embedded pico projectors are expected to dominate the global pico projectors market because of the growing demand for flexible devices that consume less space and are available at low prices,” says Faisal Ghaus, Vice President of Technavio, adding that embedded pico projectors are becoming an important platform for augmented reality.
Technavio expects increased integration of the projectors in electronic devices to drive the market, with demand coming in particular from the Asia Pacific region. Technical challenges which could hold back the market include low brightness.
While pico projectors make use of liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS), digital light processing (DLP), laser beam steering (LBS) or holographic laser projection (HLP), laser light sources are expected to garner the most interest, Technavio said.
