Iflix, a Southeast Asian Internet TV service, has signed an agreement with Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) to provide iflix services to PLDT customers.

Under the agreement, broadband subscriptions of selected high-end PLDT HOME products will include a monthly iflix subscription at no extra charge. Further, iflix will also be offered across all PLDT HOME and Smart platforms as a value added service.

Said iflix Chairman Patrick Grove, “We are extremely proud to have come together with the largest telecommunications company in the Philippines and, indeed, one of the region’s leading companies, to offer iflix to PLDT’s enormous customer base. With well over 75 million Filipinos communicating and being entertained using PLDT services, they are the absolute perfect partner for iflix in the Philippines.

“In PLDT we have found a like-minded partner who is committed to changing the way entertainment content is consumed in the region. We look forward to building an extraordinary business in the Philippines together.”

The companies also announced that PLDT is investing in iflix. Said PLDT Chairman, Manuel Pangilinan: “We at PLDT are very bullish over the business that iflix is building. That is why we have decided to participate as shareholders. We are confident this service will change the way PLDT customers across all our services are entertained now and in the future. We look forward to working with the iflix team to bring an extraordinary experience to Filipinos.”

Earlier this month the company established a jointly operated development centre in Kuala Lumpur with Vimond Media Solutions. The Global Centre of Excellence will focus on global product management and R&D with the aim of creating innovative TV products for iflix’s Southeast Asian customer base. Vimond also seeks to expand and develop Southeast Asia as a new key region with this initiative.

The companies are on a recruitment drive locally and internationally across fields, including architecture, web and mobile development, cloud and infrastructure, automation, data science, IT operations, and research and development.

Iflix Group CTO Ash Crick commented, “With this initiative, we aim to provide an attractive return path for highly-skilled Malaysians who have been studying and working overseas. It is our intention to increase the 'brain gain' in Southeast Asia, particularly Malaysia through creating exciting opportunities for skillful individuals from around the globe to join us in revolutionising the entertainment industry.

“Vimond is the ideal innovation partner for iflix. We have established a fantastic working synergy through launching our service and we look forward to developing that partnership further. The compatibility of our business cultures and ambitions to make a real impact in this industry was conducive towards a deeper collaboration to bring true innovation to this space.”

Helge Høibraaten, CEO of Vimond Media Solutions said, "By offering a premium TV experience at an affordable price to a young and diverse population, we can make a substantial difference, for the audiences and the industry. For us it is important to collect, embrace and nurture ideas from different markets and mindsets across the world in an industry that has both strong globalisation and localisation trends happening in parallel. This, in addition to the iflix presence, is why it is strategic for us to open up this Centre of Excellence in Kuala Lumpur.”

Most recently the company announced a partnership with The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia, covering content across the Marvel Studios, ABC Studios, Buena Vista International and Touchstone Pictures.

The company launched its service in Malaysia and the Philippines in late May. The company will next roll out its service to Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam throughout 2015, offering consumers more than 11,000 hours of content. Each subscription will allow a user to access the service on five Internet-capable devices such as a smartphone, tablet, computer, or television set.
