Indonesia's ADVAN to put SoFIA in phones, tablets

Fabless semiconductor company Rockchip  and the largest Indonesian mobile phone and tablet manufacturer ADVAN  have jointly announced that they will enter into a partnership under which ADVAN will develop communication products based on the SoFIA 3G-R (C3230RK) SoC platform. The cooperation is expected to further enhance mutual product competitiveness in Southeast Asia and beyond.

ADVAN is the largest mobile phone and tablet manufacturer in Indonesia with 15% share of the mobile phone market and more than a 50% share of the tablet market.

SoFIA 3G-R (C3230RK) is positioned as a mid-end intelligent 3G product jointly developed by Intel and Rockchip. It uses 28nm processing technology, the Intel Atom framework, and a quad-core 64-bit processor. The baseband chip went on sale during Q1 2015, providing 3G integrated solutions for tablets.

"The SoFIA 3G-R (C3230RK) communication chip is very competitive in the market. It will be applied in ADVAN product lines covering smartphones and tablets," ADVAN CEO Robert Xue said. "Taking this valuable opportunity, ADVAN is entering into long-term comprehensive cooperation with Chinese chip factory Rockchip, launching the communication products based on the SoFIA 3G-R (C3230RK) platform at first. More products of high cost performance will be launched in 2015."

"ADVAN has great influence in the mobile phone industry in Indonesia with good distribution of product lines. Our cooperation aims to make strategic arrangement in the communication field covering smartphone and communication tablets," said Chen Feng, Global Vice President of Rockchip.

"SoFIA 3G-R (C3230RK) is highly advanced in stability and the solutions will provide the basis for ADVAN to make excellent hardware and software products for business expansion throughout the world."

The Indonesian smartphone market has witnessed rapid growth due to its cost-effectiveness. It has become the largest smartphone sales market in Southeast Asia.
