NetApp, a storage and data management provider, is giving the Sauber F1 team a reliable, flexible and unified storage infrastructure for all IT services at its Hinwil Headquarters in Switzerland, as well as during the Formula One weekends across the globe for the fourth consecutive year.

The Sauber F1 Team and NetApp started working together in 2007, building up their partnership in early 2012 when NetApp became Technical Partner of the Sauber F1 Team. With an approximate 15% increase in data annually, Sauber required a consolidated IT infrastructure that can easily adapt to its steadily growing requirements. Efficiency was their top priority.

This year NetApp provided the Sauber F1 Team with an upgrade to an enterprise clustered storage system from the FAS8000 series, which delivers higher performance and more storage capacity.

Monisha Kaltenborn, Team Principal, Sauber F1 Team said:  “The Sauber F1 Team and NetApp – a perfect match. Both companies stand for efficiency, productivity and optimisation. Since the start of our partnership we have greatly benefitted from NetApp storage and data management systems. The quality and quantity of the new system doubled our storage capacity as well as tripled our data access performance.”

"This is a fantastic example of data driving innovation. By relying on a very high-performance and flexible storage solution, the Sauber F1 Team always has insights into its latest research and development findings and race data. This allows for constant optimisation on track – while delivering maximum efficiency to all business applications,” said Manfred Reitner, Senior Vice President & General Manager EMEA, NetApp.

“The Singapore F1 Grand Prix is an iconic event on the nation’s calendar, where skill, engineering prowess and breakthrough technology takes center stage. NetApp provides Sauber F1 with real-time access to data to enable the team and drivers to make split-second strategy calls and gain the advantage over their competitors, while also transmitting decisions that enhance the car’s design,” said Rick Scurfield, Senior Vice President & APAC President, NetApp.
