The Innotribe Startup Challenge Finale is set to take place on 14 October in Singapore as part of SWIFT’s annual Sibos conference. Twenty finalists* – 12 early-stage and eight growth-stage companies – will be at the Finale.
As in previous years, the 12 early-stage finalists will pitch and showcase their business ideas to Sibos delegates who will select this year’s winner. A cash prize of US$50,000 will be awarded to the winning early-stage finalist.
For the first time this year, the remaining eight growth-stage finalists will host individual exhibition booths on the Innotribe stand at Sibos. They will have the opportunity to conduct live product demos for Sibos delegates throughout the week. They will be joined by Startup Challenge alumni EssDOCS, AMP Credit Technologies and Matchmove, which is also last year's Finale winner.
EssDOCS, an enabler of paperless trade, has offices in Taipei and Singapore in addition to a presence in the US and Europe; AMP Credit Technologies, with offices in Hong Kong, Singapore, the Philippines, and the UK, provides small business credit solutions including a credit scoring and loan servicing platform, while Singapore-based Matchmove is a mobile wallet and payment card platform provider in Asia.
Fabian Vandenreydt, Head of Markets Management, Innotribe and the SWIFT Institute at SWIFT says: “Since 2011, the Innotribe Startup Challenge has brought the SWIFT community in direct contact with more than 650 fintech startups from around the world. This programme not only supports community engagement, but also enables SWIFT and its member institutions to stay abreast of current innovation activity in today’s fast changing landscape. Innotribe was one of the initial facilitators to help accelerate and spread the first wave of fintech innovation across the industry, and we will continue to play an important role in this process.”
Three of the finalists – goSwiff, Codapay and Jewel Paymentech – hail from Singapore, as does Matchmove. Codapay enables merchants to accept payments in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Singapore from consumers who do not have credit or debit cards, via channels such as direct carrier billing, bank transfers, cash payments at convenience stores, and physical vouchers.
GoSwiff's mPOS product is designed for secure cashless payments between individuals, merchants and financial institutions. Jewel Paymentech researches and develops intelligent risk technologies for the banking and electronic payments industry. Bitspark is also based in Asia - it was set up in Hong Kong and deals in cryptocurrency. All four Asian finalists were part of the Singapore regional showcase*.
