Said Mike Chen, Sales Director of Synology: “We’ve seen the cloud becoming mature as a platform, so this year, by utilising Synology’s strength in software-hardware integration, we brings breakthroughs to a lot of aspects which businesses follow closely, such as cloud applications, virtualisation, data protection, and disaster recovery. This will allow them to adopt more effective and comprehensive IT deployment strategies.”

DSM is Synology's NAS operating system, and version 6.0 has been fully upgraded. Highlights include:
DSM 6.0 supports 64-bit architectures and breaks past the limit of 4GB RAM for better system performance. The modularisation of originally built-in applications also delivers higher system reliability and flexibility when adopting updates.
Synology PetaSpace technology allows users to create a shared folder with petabyte capacity on multiple volumes, which is ideal for archiving cold data (Editor's note: data which is unlikely to be required often).
NonVisual Desktop Access (NVDA), a screen reader for the visually impaired.
For the enterprise, DSM 6.0 adds enhancements for cloud synchronisation, virtualisation, data protection, and disaster recovery. Enhancements for consumers include Apple Watch and Windows 10 support. The application has built-in productivity apps, including the newly-designed MailPlus webmail service; collaboration features for SpreadSheet, offline editing capability for presentations in Note Station, plus better search in File Index.

The router supports up to 1,900 Mbps combined transfer speeds and supports beam-forming, which can maximise the Wi-Fi signal for specific devices. Advanced network management: includes application-based traffic control and DNS-based, customisable web filters. The router can be controlled with a mobile app.

The new DS716+ NAS server is powered by the 14nm Intel Braswell quad-core processor, reducing power consumption by 40%. It can transcode 4K video on the fly, and seven can be integrated together with the DX513 expansion unit.
Compared to its predecessor, the DS716+’s read/write performance is at least 160% better for AES-256 bit encrypted data transfers.
