Reliance Communications, an Indian telecommunications service provider, along with its subsidiary Global Cloud Xchange
(GCX) have announced a major expansion of its cloud platform inside India.
As of November 4, the company said 3,210 Indian enterprises, 14,505 global enterprises and 231 Fortune 500 companies in Mumbai were connected to the new RCOM/GCX
network, which allows them to multiply their
corporate compute power by nine to 15X, and their storage capabilities by over 100X. These users enjoy a expanded data centre footprint in India plus access to 2M+ enterprise applications.
"We believe the outsourcing and driving of clouds will nestle itself in India over the next
decade in a similar way as software development, call centres and business process outsourcers (BPOs) did in the last
decade,” said Bill Barney, CEO of Reliance
Communications (Enterprise) and Global
Cloud Xchange. “This will drive huge growth in the cloud and data centre space across
India,
so it is mission-critical that we further enhance the end points of our network with
state-of-the-art capabilities to ensure
we are prepared to meet explosive new demands
ahead.”
Currently the largest owner of cloud computing facilities in India, with 11 data centres connected through the largest terrestrial fibre network in the country and the world’s
largest subsea cable infrastructure, RCOM/GCX is taking another step forward in
optimising its existing assets by expanding its data centre campuses in Mumbai and in
Bangalore, doubling the space and delivering 3X the power.
“These enhanced facilities will serve as major hubs for our revolutionary
Cloud X ecosystem,” said Braham Singh, RCOM/GCX’s Senior Vice President of Product
Management. “In parallel to the expansion of our data centre footprint, we have deployed
Cloud X Fusion across India, delivering predictable
performance, carrier-level security for
our enterprise MPLS customers to connect to the public cloud directly from their private
enterprise WAN.”
RCOM/GCX enterprise customers across India now have “on-net” access to major public
cloud platforms
including
AWS, Microsoft Azure, Softlayer, Google, Rackspace,
VMWare
and
more than 20 others
worldwide, as well as software services like Microsoft
Office 365
and
Google Apps for Work.
Cloud X Fusion is part of RCOM/GCX’s
Cloud X portfolio, a proprietary platform
designed to combine the speed and power of fibreoptics with the agility,
flexibility and cost-efficiencies of pay-as-you-go cloud computing. It is available globally.
