The General Authority for Regulating the Telecommunications Sector (TRA) of the UAE and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) have entered into a strategic partnership to support the development of ICT in the Arab region’s least developed countries on the sidelines of the World Radiocommunication Conference 2015.

HE Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, UAE TRA Director General, and UAE Delegation Head said: “This partnership stems from our firm belief in supporting the world’s development and contributing to the materialisation of the World Summit goals through supporting developing countries in the region. (It) reflects TRA’s endeavor to underpin ICT development at a local, regional, and international level through exchanging expertise and implementing best practices which reflect positively on the sector’s advancement and pave the way to building the knowledge-based economy.

"This partnership emphasises UAE’s keenness on supporting the least developing countries in the region, as ICT has a direct impact on all life aspects and it is a vital enabler for sustainable development. In light of this importance and driven by our wise leadership directives, we spare no effort to reinforce ICT development in the developing countries and this is due to the positive impact that this development will have on economy and living standards in these countries.”

Engineer Nasser Bin Hammad, UAE TRA Senior Manager International Affairs, stated, “We signed the strategic partnership on the sidelines of WRC 2015, the partnership mainly aims to underpin ICT development in the Arab region, but its scope will extend in the future to include other regions. The partnership’s concept is based on development and offering support through implementing joint development projects that pave the way to building the knowledge-based economy through offering an advanced ICT structure.”
