TRA and RAK agree on detecting and impounding counterfeit devices
The General Authority for Regulating the Telecommunications Sector (TRA) and the Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Department of Economic Development have signed an MoU on detecting and impounding counterfeit devices. This MoU is a part of a regulatory framework established by TRA to safeguard the quality of telecommunication services, protect consumers’ rights in UAE, and provide a secure environment for the sector in accordance with UAE terms and conditions.
HE Majed Al Mesmar, UAE TRA Deputy Director General said, “This agreement reflects TRA’s commitment to the wise leadership directives of improving the quality of services provided by the government and achieving customer happiness. TRA believes that ICT is a dispensable requirement for building a knowledge-based economy, and that is why we are striving to utilise ICT in empowering the national efforts exerted to elevate UAE competiveness. This MoU also highlights our endeavour to augment the telecommunication sector services as we will support RAK in regulating its economic activities and providing an attractive economic environment for investors.”
HE Ahmed Obaid Al Tunaiji, Ras Al Khaimah Department of Economic Development Deputy Director General stated: “This MoU aims at elevating the administrative work’s efficiency and it reinforces the department’s approach of enhancing its electronic system in line with its working environment development plan. Moreover, we are very keen to utilise all capabilities and possibilities in developing all professional aspects including the technical side.”
This agreement commits both parties to cooperate in supporting initiatives and cooperation frameworks that are proposed and agreed upon. TRA will also be committed to organising workshops and providing technical consultancies regarding the validity of devices, in addition to protecting intellectual property rights.
