APeJ gaming landscape shows gaming is big in Greater China

As total PC shipments continue to decline, more PC vendors are turning towards the gaming market to generate revenue, says IDC. The research firm has published an infographic that gives an overview of gaming PC landscape in Asia Pacifi­c excluding Japan (APeJ):

Half of consumers in APeJ use their PC for gaming. Nine percent of consumers surveyed are hardcore gamers.

In H115, 15% of desktop PC shipments in mainland China went to Internet cafes.

50% of mainland China hardcore gamers like laptops.


Hardcore gamers’ form factor preferences for gaming vary by country. Laptops are preferred in mainland China while Hong Kong consumers prefer branded desktops. In Taiwan, the majority of hardcore gamers prefer non-branded desktops for gaming.

APeJ gamers like Asus the most, whereas Chinese gamers prefer Lenovo.


The top vendors for branded gaming PCs in APeJ for Q315 are: Asus, MSI and Acer. In China, Lenovo is the top brand followed by Haier and Asus respectively.

Gamers are willing to pay as much as US$899 for a gaming laptop.

Based on IDC’s Q315 Asia/Pacific PC Tracker, 62.5% of gaming notebooks shipped in the region cost between US$650 and US$899.
