At the start of 2016, Mark Micallef, Area Vice President, ASEAN, Citrix, looks back at the top three trends influencing enterprises in 2015, while looking ahead at the top three trends for 2016. He says:

Info-toxification

Today, people are expected to handle a huge amount of information. As a result, people are overwhelmed and “info-toxicated.” According to McKinsey, 30% of work time is spent on emails, and half of that time is wasted*. Ironically, the tools that are aimed at helping us to communicate easier and thus, become more productive, now consume large chunks of our time, creating large inefficiencies in our workday. The concept of info-toxification is explored in the Citrix 2020 Technology Landscape report, released earlier this year.

The “We Economy”

As technology continues to move at a breakneck pace, companies have learned to be more receptive to ideas from internal and external resources in order to resolve problems, thereby increasing their speed to market. Many companies are collaborating to shape experiences and outcomes, effecting change on a much bigger stage – together – in ways never before possible. For instance, platforms such as SwitchPitch enable large corporations to host open competitions and pitch startups on problems they want to solve in a cost-effective manner.

Internet of Things (IoT)

The entirety of the physical world is coming online rapidly. According to Gartner, there will be 25 billion network-connected things in 2020, up from 4.9 billion things today**. The IoT has become a game changer, and its disruptive impact has been felt in every facet of society. Smart products will soon outnumber every other kind of computing device – generating more data and using more cloud computing. Additionally, new levels of automation will enable efficiency and productivity gains, while providing a better experience.

Cloud

Organisations are living in a cloud-centric world, with the cloud seen by many businesses as the key to current and future success, especially as companies move away from traditional on-premise only infrastructure and instead, focus on applications (apps). Over 89% of companies in Asia Pacific report that they already have a cloud-first policy, or have plans to develop one***. Hybrid IT and cloud-enabled technologies are fast defining the new normal in the region.

Mobility

Where people work is changing as much as how people work. It is no longer sufficient for companies to just support mobility in the workplace; businesses need to ensure that their mobility strategies continue to evolve to become engagement-led. Mobility is more than the device, it is about the fluidity of business processes, data and apps that ultimately increases flexibility and agility in a competitive marketplace.

Security

In a landscape with increasingly sophisticated threats, security solutions have to be mobile and application-friendly to effectively protect businesses. Technology must adapt policy to balance mobility, security and functionality into an experience that consistently meets the demands of both the enterprise and individual.
