“With the adoption of cloud services, software developers are using cloud-based IDE as well. Such solutions offer a lot of flexibility and ease of implementing IDE as there is no software installation cost. Cloud-based IDE is gaining popularity as it helps developers code efficiently and work with a flexible pricing model. For instance, Cloud9 supports more than 40 programming languages including PHP, Java, Python and Ruby,” says Amit Sharma, Lead Analyst, ICT, Technavio Research.
The Eclipse segment accounts for the largest share of the global IDE-as-a-service market. IBM developed Eclipse in 2001 with the help of other vendors, and it is one of the most used solutions by software developers. It can be used to build and deploy code for application development to the cloud from Eclipse through IBM Bluemix-hosted services.
Key vendors in the global IDE market include IBM, Intel, JetBrains, Red Hat, and SAP. Providers are expected to differentiate with software development features such as DevOps and container technology.
