Technavio sees market demand for micro-mobile data centres

The global micro-mobile data centre market will be worth US$853 million by 2020, says research firm Technavio. The new data centre format is modular and containerised to overcome challenges related to power consumption and carbon emissions. A micro-mobile data centre involves a single rack enclosure equipped with power, cooling, and IT infrastructure, helping users minimise infrastructure spending.

The adoption of micro-mobile data centres will increase in developing regions that do not have enough data centre facilities to keep up with the growing Internet traffic and Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

“The market is expected to witness increasing consolidation of data centres in the coming years. Data centre consolidation projects are beneficial for enterprises as they help in the acquisition of businesses and an overall cost reduction. Moreover, consolidation of data centres helps in cost reduction, reduction in power consumption, enhanced security, and improvement in efficiency. Also, servers are also being consolidated to work on a single piece of computing hardware, which will spur this market’s growth prospects in the coming years,” says Rakesh Panda, Lead Analyst, ICT, Technavio Research.

The IT and telecom segment dominates the micro-mobile data centre market and is expected to grow at a high CAGR of more than 35% by the end of 2020. Factors such as increasing power consumption and carbon emissions will bolster the consolidation of data centres, thereby aiding in the growth of the micro-mobile data center market over the predicted period.
This market is highly competitive with several well-established vendors. Key vendors include Canovate, EMS, Huawei, Panduit, Rittal, Schneider Electric, and Zellabox.
