Digital transformation is foremost for C-suite priorities in Asia: IDC

  • Digital transformation (DX) is at the forefront of C-suite priorities in Asia.
  • IDC predicts, by the end of 2017, 60% of the Asia Pacific top 1,000 (A1000) enterprises will have DX at the centre of their corporate strategy.
  • The underlying enabling architecture will be hybrid cloud, on which enterprises will deploy mobile, social, big data/analytics, machine-to-machine, Internet of Things (IoT) and industrial applications for their DX objectives.

IDC predicts that Asian businesses are gearing up for a digital future. According to the research firm, 60% of A1000 enterprises will have DX at the centre of their corporate strategy by the end of 2017, with hybrid cloud as the underlying architecture. Enterprises will deploy mobility, social, big data and analytics, machine-to-machine, IoT and industrial applications for their DX objectives, IDC said.

"While the transformation is challenging, IDC sees Asian businesses gearing up for a major push towards digital. IDC predicts more than 65% of IT organisations will commit to hybrid cloud architectures by 2017, which will enable the pace of transformation in the region," said Chris Morris, Vice President for Cloud Services and Technology Group, IDC Asia/Pacific.

In his keynote at the recent annual Asia/Pacific Enterprise Hybrid Cloud Conference 2016 in Singapore Morris noted that the conference aims to inform "IT leaders on the need to have an appropriate data centre architecture in place which has cloud, software defined, integrated infrastructure and security as its core elements before embarking on DX”.

According to IDC, three aspects determine the effectiveness of the IT organisation in driving DX in a mobile-intensive, data-driven and competitive business environment: service management; application management and infrastructure modernization in data centres; and governance, risk and compliance (GRC).
