M1 uses Nokia technology to boost customer experience at busy MRT stations

M1 and Nokia have completed the installation of indoor small cells and Wi-Fi networks at the busiest mass rapid transit (MRT) stations in Singapore.

To further improve the customer experience in accessing data, M1 is now providing high quality mobile coverage in MRT stations to thousands of passengers, particularly during peak hours.

Leveraging on Nokia’s Flexi Zone small cells technology, M1 has enhanced the data bandwidth at high traffic spots, removed network congestion and improved data speed to M1 customers at crowded areas within the MRT stations. The small cell and WiFi solutions are currently live at Orchard MRT station, Raffles MRT Station, as well as at Jurong East MRT station*.

Denis Seek, Chief Technical Officer, M1, said: “Through this latest collaboration with our technology partner Nokia, we reiterate our commitment in deploying the latest technologies to provide our customers the best possible connected travelling experience. Coupled with M1’s advanced 4G+ mobile network, they will enjoy an even better user experience.”

Nicolas Bouverot, Head of Asia South at Nokia, said: “We are committed to achieving new technology milestones that differentiate the operator as an innovation leader in the region. With this network deployment, we have proven once again that our technologies help M1 enhance the network performance to ensure enriched user experience.”
