The Xbox Elite Wireless Controller from Microsoft has won a Best of the Best Red Dot Award for 2016 in the Consumer Electronics and Cameras cataegory. It is one of two Microsoft products with the Best of the Best accolade in this category, the other being the Microsoft Hololens.

The Xbox Elite Wireless Controller was designed in close collaboration with professional-level gamers to meet the needs of competitive gamers and enthusiastic amateurs alike. Its innovative design merges individual customisability with subtly and ergonomically-refined surfaces and details.

Xbox Elite optimally adapts to individual hand sizes and gaming styles. Players can swap between a variety of metal thumbsticks, D-pads and new paddle controls for more personalised control and ergonomics. New configurations ensure higher accuracy, faster reactions and a wider reach.

Low-friction, reinforced rings around each thumbstick minimise wear and provide smooth interaction. Rubberised grip surfaces give the controller a pleasant feel and more stability. This also allows players to hold the controller with less effort when playing for longer periods of time.

"Featuring perfectly crafted details, the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller sets new standards in the field of game controllers. It is sophisticated in design and fascinates with a sensual appeal. Gamers have a choice between a variety of metal thumbsticks, D-pads and paddles, allowing them to configure the controller according to their needs. The resulting optimised operability and ergonomics also lend itself ideally for competitive gaming," said the judges.

The Red Dot Award is one of the largest and most prestigious design awards in the world. In 2016, the award received a record 5,200 innovations from 57 nations. A jury panel of 41 international experts debated in Germany over three days to select the product designs that represent the best of design today.
