Jack Ma, Alibaba Executive Chairman and the co-chair of the B20 SME Development Task Force, talks about the significance of Hangzhou and shares his message to G20 leaders in a newly released video ahead of the upcoming G20 Summit which will be held in Hangzhou, China – where Alibaba Group headquarters are based.
“Hangzhou has become the centre of inspiration, the centre of innovation, and the centre of the new economy,” says Ma, a Hangzhou native. Since Ma and the 17 other founders started Alibaba in his Hangzhou apartment in 1999, Alibaba has grown into the world’s largest commerce company.
In the video, Ma explains his vision for the Electronic World Trade Platform (eWTP) – to help small businesses and consumers everywhere participate in cross-border trade. “If we can build a platform that can enable small businesses and young people to conduct free and open trade globally, this is going be very fundamental for the next 20 or 30 years for the world’s economy,” he says.
