• Programme attracts 2,200 innovative companies from 73 countries in less than a month
The Dubai Future Accelerators (DFA) programme has received over 2,200 submissions from 73 countries for a new Future Accelerators programme, which was announced in late July. Seven continents were represented, including one submission from scientists in Antarctica. With less than 35 spots available for the programme, the application-to-acceptance ratio will be less than 2%.
The DFA is an intensive public-private sector programme that pairs top companies and cutting-edge entrepreneurs with leading government departments to co-create breakthrough solutions for the public good. Those who make it through the rigorous process will be flown to Dubai to test their technologies over a 12-week programme, working in one of the most dynamic environments to address seven key civic challenges.
The challenges include the application of technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, genomics, 3D printing, distributed ledgers (most notably based on Blockchain), biomimicry and biotechnology, as well as new business models and ways of working. Each challenge focuses on an important areas of government innovation, including healthcare, education, transportation, infrastructure, renewable energy, and digital transformation.

HE Saif Al Aleeli, CEO of Dubai Future Foundation, emphasised that "the Dubai Future Accelerators are helping transform the city of Dubai into a global test bed for leading ideas and technologies. The chosen applicants will be working closely with seven government departments, each of whom is committed to tackling the challenges of the 21st century and taking advantage of the opportunities it presents."
The goal is to first test, then scale these challenges across the city and region where possible, marking Dubai as an emerging centre of global innovation. Winners will be announced shortly at the commencement of the programme.
