Shopmatic acquires Taiwan's 5xRuby

Shopmatic, a Singapore-based e-commerce technology company that manages the entire ecosystem for online sellers, has acquired Taiwan-based Ruby on Rails firm, 5xRuby. Ruby on Rails is a framework for building web applications.

The acquisition underlines Shopmatic's promise to its customers to provide a streamlined experience backed by the latest technology stack and a talented platform development team. With this acquisition, Shopmatic will continue to bring innovative and disruptive solutions to the markets with an emphasis on simplicity and ease of use.

Founded in 2014, 5xRuby has been at the forefront of building the Ruby developer community in Taiwan. 5xRuby caters to high tech clients from Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan developing web and mobile applications.

CEO of Shopmatic Group, Anurag Avula said, “We are delighted with our partnership with 5xRuby. This acquisition will not only enable us to strengthen our stance as the leading platform that enables businesses to go online, but also to scale and enter new markets at a faster pace. We welcome the 5xRuby team into the Shopmatic family and are excited with the opportunity of working with a world-class development team.”

5xRuby is the brainchild of Eddie Kao, a Ruby/Rails expert and iOS app developer. Kao, Mu-Fan Teng and Alice Chao co-founded 5xRuby and are the organisers behind the Ruby Taiwan community. They also speak at various Ruby conferences across the globe.

Kao said, “We at 5xRuby endeavor to deliver robust and new age solutions to our clients and train enterprises and startups in developing advanced applications. We are excited to team up with Shopmatic to strengthen its online platform with our elegant, fun and productive language so that their merchants can focus on growing their business. Getting onboard with a global company like Shopmatic will be a great opportunity for us to grow and set foot in the international markets as well.”
