FNT Software partners ABB to promote data centre agility

FNT Software, a global software player for IT management, data centre and telecom infrastructure management, said it has started a new business alliance with ABB (ASEA Brown Boveri), the global power and automation technology group.

The collaboration between ABB and FNT in marketing data centre infrastructure management solutions (DCIM) will cover joint identification of customers, marketing, and implementation in Asia, and will cascade into Asia through the Singapore operations of both companies.. ABB and FNT have already started discussing potential opportunities with data centres and telecommunications companies in Singapore and Malaysia.

FNT CEO Nikolaus Albrecht said: “Our customers will benefit from the joint integrated solutions which pave the way to the industrial data centre of the future. FNT and ABB are leaders in their sectors. We are looking forward to working together with ABB on joint projects and to developing new ideas. Driven by the innovative strength and global footprint of our two companies, we are well positioned to boost innovation and success for our customers around the globe.”

Ilpo Ruohonen, MD of ABB's Control Technologies business unit said: "FNT software combined with ABB Decathlon for Data Centers will give our customers an advanced, seamless DCIM solution for their data centre management, providing them a comprehensive view of their data centre operations and enabling them to boost their agility and productivity. “This offering strengthens our portfolio for this rapidly growing industry segment," he said.

FNT Singapore-based Regional Sales Manager Manfred Goh said: "Within a span of a few years, Singapore has emerged as a frontrunner for housing data centres for business operating across Asia and the world.

“With the rising complexity in data centre operations accompanied by technological advances, FNT’s DCIM solution empowers businesses to document, plan, and manage entire data center infrastructure inclusive of building infrastructure, IT assets and cable networks via an integrated system that offers end-to-end visibility of IT services."

Decathlon for Data Centers, based on the ABB System 800xA process control platform, is ABB’s industrial data centre solution for monitoring, managing and controlling enterprise, colocation and cloud data centres. It collects data from IT, power, cooling and building systems, and its open environment integrates data centre toolsets faster, including uploading assets into tracking tools.

FNT’s 2D and 3D white space floor planning tool FNT Command enables the visualisation of inventory and operations at enterprise-, facility-, data hall-, rack-, and system-levels to identify white space utilisation (WSU) and rack space utilisation (RSU).

The integration of these two DCIM products - ABB Decathlon for Data Centers and FNT Command - creates one comprehensive data center management solution. Customers can now reduce time spent locating assets and enable their IT and facilities staff to collaborate to the highest degree possible.

The shared data set supports capacity planning and improves space utilisation to defer capital expenditures. Having the systems pre-integrated means that customers can deploy the combined solution more quickly.

Additionally, FNT’s workflow tools for data centre operations complement ABB’s secure real-time power and environmental monitoring and alarming, ensuring up-to-the-second data is always in the hands of those who need it.
