Garmin has announced new products and services for its wearables and car portable navigation devices at the Consumer Electronics Show 2017 in the US.
These include the new fēnix 5 line of multisport GPS watches from Garmin’s top-of-the-line fēnix series, the first time Garmin is creating multiple sizes of a single product to accommodate users with varying wrist sizes.
All fēnix 5 watches are designed for multiple sports including running, hiking, swimming and biking. The watches contain built-in smarts such as heartrate monitor, daily activity tracking, compass, altimeter, barometer plus GPS and GLONASS support satellite tracking systems, and are water-rated to 100m. The fēnix 5 models are compatible with Garmin’s Connect IQ Store so users can customise their watch with apps, widgets, data fields and watch faces.
The Connect IQ application store is also expanding to link Garmin users to services from more third parties, including ride-sharing service Uber, cycling accessory company Trek/Bontrager, energy gel producer GU Energy Labs and nutrition tablet creator nuun.
Garmin's next-generation portable navigation devices (PNDs), the Garmin Drive 51 and DriveSmart 51 from the Garmin Drive 2017 line, will come with free live services including traffic and parking information, and real-time location sharing.
