This blog was begun in January 2014 as an outlet for news, trends and other insights in Asian technology because of the shrinking number of publications covering enterprise technology, software development, electronics, manufacturing, and channels in Singapore.
TechTrade Asia is about the computer and communications technology trade in Asia Pacific and the Middle East, and designed to be inclusive: new developments with technology vendors, channel partners, and manufacturers, as well as major trends, product launches and standards for the enterprise (B2B) and consumer (B2C) world. Central Asia is occasionally featured.
The blog covers electronics, hardware, software, services, and channels, through news, trends, surveys, appointments, awards, case studies and customer testimonials, but the announcement should be fairly recent and within the regional scope for the blog. As a rule of thumb the information must impact businesses in Asia Pacific and the Middle East and be about destinations in these regions, as opposed to Asian companies targeting businesses in other parts of the world:
European company opens office in Asia - yes
Asian company expands into Middle East - yes
Asian company supports European laws - no
Global sports event - maybe
TechTrade Asia is also about the tech ecosystem. If the IT industry were a library full of books, I'd be blogging about new libraries, legislation impacting libraries, partnerships between libraries and other libraries or other organisations, spaces for libraries, library furniture like shelves and sorting systems, book sellers, ways to organise the books, new types of books like e-books, trends in readership and so on. I would not cover the actual books unless it is a bestseller, extremely unusual in some way, a reference tool like a dictionary or a translator which might be useful for all libraries to acquire.
In the tech world, libraries = vendors, spaces for libraries = data centres and Internet cables, sellers = channel partners, ways to organise books =s oftware for application performance management etc, furniture = hardware, software and services, reading trends = user behaviour and consumption trends, new types of books = innovations like virtual reality. Books = software or apps. I do cover selected apps in sister blog WorkSmart Asia.
While enterprise technology predominates, TechTrade Asia is about the full spectrum of technology, including consumer technology, so long as it impacts the industry. Technology in other disciplines may be featured if there is some overlap with computers and communications, likely these days with the Internet of Things.
Announcements such as sales and discounts or in-depth descriptions of products and services are rarely featured unless I feel they are significant to the industry as a whole. Such stories often have a place in the sister blog WorkSmart Asia however.
As resources are limited this blog is not meant to be first with the news, nor provide a comprehensive overview of the industry. Editorially TechTrade Asia provides an alternative perspective of the industry through a personal curation of news items.
Target Audience
This blog focuses on anyone working in the trade as well as on actual users of technology, especially enterprise technology.
Although there is an option for receiving stories by email on the site, this is third-party technology and I don't get details of these readers, hence am unable to provide a breakdown of the demographics of readers beyond the overviews that Google Analytics provides (please ask).
Google Analytics says average monthly views went above 14,000 in 2016.
Frequency
This Singapore-based blog is updated at least once a week. Mondays are the best days to visit, though there are often additions over the week.
Amplification
I may share the events I cover 'live' on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
Blog posts from TechTrade Asia are occasionally referenced in sister blogs, or in social media. TechTrade Asia has its own Facebook account, Instagram account, @techtradeasia, and I tweet for the blogs at @jtang_8. I also have a personal Instagram account, a personal Twitter account, a personal Facebook account and a Facebook community page which may feature links from TechTrade Asia, though not often. Office openings, appointment stories and research findings may be shared on LinkedIn.
Posts are also shared on Google+, either on my personal Google+ account, my professional Google+ account, or both.

Business Model
Content in this blog from press releases, event attendance and event coverage are free. Major technology conferences are often covered, such as CommunicAsia in Singapore, as well as Mobile World Congress and CES.
I am open to payment for sponsored content - which will carry a 'sponsored' label - and may also do unsponsored interviews about a company if I happen to be working on other paid projects with that company. Coverage from media trips is free but will also mention that the travel and accommodation costs are sponsored.
I do not work on the blog full-time as I have to pay my bills through other means. Let me know if you have freelance writing assignments in mind.
I do not have a formal media kit or rate card since coverage is generally free at this time. Pricing will vary for sponsored content depending on the amount of work involved.
Blogger Profile
I've created tech, B2C and B2B content in journalism, public relations, and for digital marketing and content marketing for a number of years. In addition to Singapore I have lived in Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Oman.
What I can do
I'm based in Singapore, and happy to accept press releases and invitations to events (both locally or overseas) emailed to me for consideration. There may be more Singapore-based content as I am based in Singapore but content from anywhere else in Asia, the Pacific or the Middle East is welcome.
I do visit the wires and the newsrooms of various companies on occasion as well. I also cover selected events in person in Singapore, but don't really do interviews unless they are paid in some way.
Contributed articles are accepted if they are sponsored, and will carry the "sponsored" label.
I get more press releases and invitations to press events that I can handle, so no promises as to coverage. Coverage depends on a combination of relevance, timing, and whether I have the time to blog vs paid assignments. Events that I cover in person do get priority, but coverage again depends on relevance.
Press releases which are a couple of weeks old or more are unlikely to be featured, though I sometimes queue posts for a future date. This is usually because there are too many posts about the same company or the same type of posts (surveys, case studies etc) are appearing in the same day or week. I may blog about mergers and acquisitions but typically not about financial results. Please note that posts may be updated with new content like pictures and links etc after publication.
The blogging process for WorkSmart Asia is explained here, and it is basically similar for TechTrade Asia.
