NVIDIA to impart deep learning skills in Malaysia

NVIDIA is collaborating with Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) to introduce NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute (DLI) training to Malaysia universities. Launched in 1996, MDEC is the government-owned agency charged with transforming Malaysia’s digital economy as part of Vision 2020 to develop Malaysia into a fully-developed nation by 2020.

NVIDIA DLI will train lecturers from major Malaysia universities to teach deep learning within
computer science courses and groom the next generation of data scientists in the country. To be held at MDEC on April 5, the inaugural training will offer hands-on training for developers, data scientists, and researchers looking to use deep learning to solve problems across diverse industries such as self-driving cars, healthcare, online services, and robotics.

Through self-paced labs and instructor-led workshops, the full-day programme will teach attendees the latest techniques for designing, training and deploying neural network-powered machine
learning across a variety of application domains.

Participants will explore widely used open-source frameworks and NVIDIA’s latest GPU-
accelerated deep learning platforms. Upon completion, they will receive a Beginner Level
certificate from DLI.

The DLI training has attracted participants from 12 Malaysia-based universities, including:
• International University of Malaya-Wales
• Multimedia University
• Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus
• Taylor's University
• Tunku Abdul Rahman University College
• Universiti Putra Malaysia
• Universiti Sains Malaysia
• Universiti Teknologi MARA
• Universiti Teknologi Malaysia
• Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS
• Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman
• Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia

The DLI programme is aligned to MDEC’s initiative to position Malaysia as the regional hub for
big data analytics (BDA) and its efforts to meet the demand of 20,000 data professionals by year
2020.
