“Over the past year, we saw a 6% increase in our membership and we now have more than 32,000 members, from students to seasoned professionals. As SCS enters its 50th year with renewed leadership, we will continue to be the voice for our members and shape a future where Singaporeans are at the forefront of a new digital economy.”

The Society achieved many firsts in the past year, Among the initiatives rolled out by SCS in 2016 was the setting up of the SCS TechSkills Accelerator (TeSA) Committee, which is geared towards introducing strategies that will enhance members’ employability in a new digital economy.

SCS also launched the Career Compass in partnership with Workforce Singapore (WSG), Info-communications Media Development Authority of Singapore (IMDA), National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) and Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) on 21 October 2016. To date, SCS has garnered the support of over 115 ICT career mentors, who provide participants with advice on how to acquire the trending skills and essential knowledge in the industry.

“For Singapore to continue harnessing technology for our competitive advantage, we’ll need a strong ecosystem which encourages innovation, talent development and job creation. We’ll also need to keep upskilling ourselves by learning, unlearning and relearning so that we can stay future ready.

“It’s wonderful that we’ve a very experienced team of passionate industry leaders who have stepped forward to volunteer their time and expertise in the Executive Council,” Howie Lau said.
