Akamai Predictive Content Delivery to be offered on Kaltura’s TV Platform

Kaltura, the video technology provider, and Akamai Technologies, the world's largest cloud delivery platform, announced today that the companies have entered into an agreement to extend their Net Alliance partnership to combine the power of Akamai’s Predictive Content Delivery with Kaltura’s TV Platform.

Leveraging Akamai’s Predictive Content Delivery and content delivery network (CDN) products, along with the Kaltura TV Platform’s deep customer behaviour and content consumption intelligence, the joint solution facilitates predictive on-device caching of content, using smart resource management to efficiently download content in the background while on a strong Wi-Fi connection. The content is downloaded based on each user’s profile and history, and offered to the customer at any time for smooth offline viewing on any device regardless of network connection and quality. The solution is designed to allow video content providers to offer each user their preferred content with an excellent viewing experience.

The capabilities are expected to continue to evolve over time as new analysis and intelligence models are introduced by both Kaltura and Akamai into their respective products.

Said John Sconyers, Global Senior Director, Cloud Services Partners at Akamai: “By prepositioning video to the device, Predictive Content Delivery removes many of the barriers that discourage on-the-go viewing such as poor network conditions, heavy data usage associated with streaming video and access to available content. It enables an efficient ‘download-to-go’ solution for mobile apps and allows for offline viewing of videos.”

“The accelerated pace of content consumption on mobile devices is quickly driving service providers to find creative solutions to tackle the challenges of both network limitations and user expectations,” commented Ron Yekutiel, Kaltura Co-founder, Chairman and CEO. “Together with Akamai, we now provide an incredibly compelling solution to our service provider customers, who come out ahead both in terms of the user experience they provide, and in terms of dramatic cost reduction.”

Kaltura's video platform is deployed globally in thousands of enterprises, media companies, service providers and educational institutions. The company has Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore and an office in Japan.
