Ng shares the gold standard for digital transformation.
Digital transformation (DX) has many facets and requires mastery in five pillars in order to become a truly digital native enterprise (DNE), says research firm IDC. Speaking at BMC Exchange in Singapore, Sandra Ng, Group VP, Practice Group, IDC Asia/Pacific shared the five DX masteries and said that transforming the operating model is the most important of all, with one of the most major impacts on profit together with information transformation.
Operating model transformation refers to maintaining automated and agile processes, and the ability to scale in scope and speed - if it is successful, critical process cycle times will fall. Information transformation, on the other hand, refers to increasing the percentage of revenue generated from information, while leadership transformation - also a high-impact mastery - alludes to the CEO taking charge of digital transformation and growing competitive share, not only at the core, but also new markets. Worksource transformation focuses on making the company one of the best places to work, and omniexperience transformation is about being customer-centric and improving the net promoter score.
"Speed, digitalisation, and collaboration means winning in the DX economy," Ng said.
Prepare for automation.
"Automation will improve development efficiency," Ng explained. IDC predicts that within the next three years, automation will improve development efficiency by up to 25%, supported by analytics-based real-time decisions in IT configuration and a low- or no-code approach to building business solutions.

Prepare for industry clouds.
Companies should also prepare for vertical industry-based clouds, which are driven by lines of business and focused on creating business value, is going to be important. "Going forward you may become a provider of technology through an industry cloud. This is an area where we see a lot of momentum," Ng said.
IDC predicts that in two years, at least a third of industry clouds will support industry-standard APIs, which will boost secure integration and accelerate the DX economy. IDC also believes that there will be some 340 industry collaborative clouds by the end of 2018.
Some of the hottest companies in the region operating in this area include Ping An in China, whose core business is insurance, but is also investing in healthcare. The CXA Group in Singapore is an industry cloud provider in wellness, Ng added.

The Asia-Pacific region could well host a larger API-driven economy than in the US, said Ng, comparing Amazon to Alibaba. "The Amazon model is more about doing everything on their own..Alibaba is all about ecosystem," Ng said. "Because of Alibaba and by extension Tencent in China we are beginning to see a lot of API momentum in our region."
Digital payments, a hot topic in Singapore with many service providers, is enabled by APIs, Ng said.
Ng also introduced a DNE in the making, adidas.

"Multicloud is a very important part of their strategy," she said, nothing that the sports company had lost its No. 2 position to Under Armour in recent years, but had since staged a comeback. In 2016, Ng said, adidas had two of the top 60 bestselling sports shoes in the world, and Nike had 52. As of October 2017, Nike has 36 of the top 60, while adidas has 24.
The entry of a new CEO with a technology background accelerated the digital transformation journey at adidas, which began focusing on accelerating time-to-market and customisation, as well as on the upcoming Gen Z and Millennial customers which will soon become a major portion of the world's population. The company offered different models in different cities tailored to consumer behaviour in each city, Ng said. "This requires precision, execution, and speed. They fused online and offline," she said. "You can go online and customise your shoes."

"Agility in the cloud is a very big part of the
platform that enabled them to come back very nicely," she added.
