Yamaha has held its first Silent Concert in Singapore, featuring its a grand piano from its Silent Piano range.

Silent Pianos combine the best of acoustic and digital pianos. The pianos are both traditional acoustic piano as well as silent pianos. In acoustic mode, pressing a key activates a hammer to hit a string in the piano. In silent mode, the keys continue to activate the hammers, but the hammers are prevented from actually touching the strings. Instead, sensors underneath each key capture all key movements and send them to the digital tone module, which delivers sound wirelessly to compatible headsets. This allows pianists to play the piano whenever they wish, without disturbing others.

Binaural sampling technology delivers a rich three-dimensional sound which seems to come straight from the heart of the piano. Yamaha's has two Silent Piano systems in the range. The Yamaha SH Silent system offers digital sound sampled from the Yamaha CFX full-size concert grand piano. Yamaha´s SG2 type Silent Piano is equipped with a sample from the Yamaha CFIIIS full-size concert grand piano. The system offers high-quality audio including 256MB WAVE-Rom for the CFX piano and a 30MB WAVE-Rom for the CFIIIS piano. Pianists also have access to a digital metronome and can record record their performances.

There are two Silent Piano systems in the range, each with different levels of operation and quality of sound available when in silent mode.
