Berjaya stops email-based cyberattacks with Retarus technology

Global information logistics provider Retarus today announced that Berjaya Corporation, a Malaysia-based conglomerate, has opted for Retarus E-Mail Security to protect email communications.

Since switching to Retarus, Berjaya has been able to block at least 95% of malicious emails directed at its employees. The service has also enhanced email traceability and tracking.

After expanding its operations across data-intensive sectors, including hospitality, financial services, information technology and telecommunications, Berjaya saw it had to beef up its protection against cyberattacks that get around conventional security mechanisms.

With email phishers using sneakier and more sophisticated social engineering techniques, Berjaya found that it had outgrown its previous email security solution and needed a tool to provide a comprehensive overview of email phishing attempts.

Berjaya is now relying on Retarus Post-delivery Detection, which includes patent-pending Patient Zero Detection technology, for identifying previously-undetected email security risks (or “patient zeroes”). With Patient Zero Detection, Berjaya can immediately identify infected messages and mitigate the impact of cyberattacks on its enterprise network. By delivering instant alerts upon discovering malware in attachments or phishing mechanisms in emails, Retarus Patient Zero Detection enables Berjaya’s IT administrators to stop malware or data breaches in their tracks.

“As our employees rely on emails in their day-to-day communication with clients, suppliers and colleagues, having a secure email gateway is key to averting financial harm resulting from phishing attacks. We needed to strengthen our defence mechanisms against phishing emails and heavy spam to prevent the devastating consequences of data loss and identity theft,” said Wang Chin Wah, IT Senior Manager, Berjaya Corporation.

Berjaya is currently looking into leveraging Retarus’ Advanced Threat Protection, including CxO Fraud Detection, Deferred Delivery Scan, Sandboxing and Time-of-Click-Protection, to better safeguard itself against advanced cyberthreats that typically slip past conventional security mechanisms.

“Retarus is committed to ensuring business continuity in data-driven enterprises such as Berjaya through accelerating these organisations’ response time to hacks and data breaches. As 91% of cyberattacks begin with an email, we hope to help enterprises achieve effective control of incoming emails through a combination of preventative protection, post-delivery protection, comprehensive threat monitoring and the analysis of email security risks,” said Oliver Prevrhal, MD at Retarus Asia.

Berjaya's core businesses include consumer marketing, property, hotels, food and beverage, motors, environmental services as well as  telecommunications and information technology. Berjaya has an employee strength of 14,000.
