Internet Economy Summit discusses fundamental changes in business and consumer worlds

Digital technologies have both redefined enterprise business models and brought about drastic changes in consumer behaviour, industry leaders said at the start of the 3rd annual Internet Economy Summit (IES) in Hong Kong.

Co-organised by the Hong Kong SAR government and Cyberport with the China Internet Development Foundation as the supporting organisation, the two-day summit brought together thought leaders from across the industry to exchange insights and strategies for the global Internet economy.

Dr Lee George Lam, Chairman of Cyberport said, "The Internet economy has redefined the world's social and economic landscape, transcending all geographical and cultural boundaries. It also has changed the way how businesses and organisations operate and succeed. As a key driver of Hong Kong's development of digital technology, Cyberport has been relentlessly incubating local startups and helping them succeed in the new economy. By working hand-in-hand with the Hong Kong SAR government and industry partners, I am confident that the digital technology sector in Hong Kong will continue to thrive, become the new impetus for Hong Kong's economy, and create sustainable socioeconomic value to our city."

Themed New Impetus for the New Economy, the summit attracted more than 1,400 attendees on the first day.
