VMware makes changes to regional leadership team

VMware, an enterprise software provider, has appointed Sanjay Deshmukh as VP and GM, South East Asia and Korea (SEAK), VMware, and Ron Goh as VP and advisor, SEAK, VMware, both effective May 2018.

The new leadership team is strategic to VMware’s growth in SEAK and to expanding the company’s ability to better support the region’s rapid digital transformation.

In his new position, Goh serves in an advisory role to support the SEAK business, bringing more than 30 years of experience, knowledge and relationships with customers and industry leaders to the table.

Deshmukh, who succeeds Goh, is responsible for driving VMware’s corporate vision in strengthening its presence and leadership in the region. With prior experience as a leader in end-user computing (EUC) for VMware in the Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) region, Deshmukh is well placed to carry forward the momentum that Goh has built for the SEAK business in the last four years.

VMware also promoted David Wakeman to Senior Director, End-User Computing, APJ, succeeding Deshmukh as the new EUC leader of APJ. With more than 15 years of experience in end-user IT, Wakeman has been providing technical leadership to VMware’s EUC customers and will continue to expand his role to help businesses across APJ drive growth and innovation in cloud and mobility.

“The new leadership team in our SEAK and EUC business in APJ represents our strong commitment to the region and propelling our business forward. I am confident that our newly appointed leaders will further our leadership in virtualisation in the region,” said Duncan Hewett, Senior VP and GM, APJ, VMware.

“In these years, Ron has helped drive our business in SEAK, integrated our business in Korea and driven exponential growth in nascent markets. I am glad that he will continue to support the business and serve as a strategic advisor to our leadership team.”

“Sanjay has been closely associated in the industry as an EUC leader and understands the diversity of our business in the region. He is an outstanding leader who has worked across both country-wide and regional roles in the past, is adaptive to new markets and capable of bringing tremendous passion to his team.”

“With Sanjay taking on the leadership of the SEAK business, we have an opportunity to appoint David as the new EUC leader. David has been with us for more than 10 years and is a phenomenal leader with an extensive background across the EUC product portfolio. I look forward to David’s leadership in driving success for our EUC business across APJ.”

“Enterprises and IT leaders are rapidly moving toward digitalisation and transforming their businesses through the implementation of new IT strategies that will yield tangible business success in an increasingly competitive landscape. I am very excited to take on the leadership of VMware’s SEAK business to further strengthen our growth across the region, support our customers and partners in their digital transformation efforts and empower businesses to succeed in the digital economy,” said Deshmukh.

Deshmukh has more than 25 years of experience in the IT industry. In his previous capacity as VP, EUC, APJ, VMware, he helped to integrate the VMware AirWatch solution and grow the EUC business in APJ. Prior to joining VMware in 2014, Deshmukh held various leadership roles at Citrix Systems, SAP and Business Objects Software across the region.
