The monthly Katara Tech Forum was held at Katara Cultural Village Building 15 on 8 May, featuring presentations by Qatar Post, the Qatar Ministry of Interior and the country's Ministry of Public Health.

Naama Abdul Mohsen, Deputy Manager of the Information Technology Department, said Qatar Post's new strategy, launched last year, was developed in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Qatar E-government 2020 Strategy.
"Qatar Post is transforming from traditional to digital services. Our e-commerce services are the best example. It is the first time Qatar Post has offered international e-commerce," said Naama.

Qatar Post's Connected provides clients with virtual shipping addresses in the UK and US; E-delivery for SMEs helps companies of all sizes ship items domestically and internationally, while the recently-launched Turkish Souq provides Qatar Post clients with more than 300,000 items from Turkey at QR50 per parcel, regardless of size.

Naama said that all the Qatar Post counters have been refurbished with touch screens to handle all services. The organisation is also expanding its self-service kiosks, which are currently available only at the head office. There will be 20 more kiosks to be set up at various Qatar Post branches and probably in some Al Meera outlets, she said.

Lieutenant Ali Al Aidroos, Smart Devices Branch Officer at the Ministry of Interior, said that the ministry is providing more than 200 electronic services in six languages, with over 400,000 active users for the different online communication channels of the ministry.

He shared that the ministry is working on introducing new services such as facial recognition for authentication and personal assistance services.

Akram Abu Ghaza, a representative from the Ministry of Public Health, spoke about the various online services being offered by the Ministry, highlighting the new My Health Patient Portal which allows patients to access all medical records online, free of charge.

The ministry is currently working on the second phase of the portal, which will allow patients to interact with physicians, request or reschedule appointments and provide various other services. He added that a website for the ministry should be launched by end-year.
